Can You Sow Grass Seed In August ?
My lawn has developed a few patches here and there and I was wondering if it was too late in the year for sowing a bit of grass seed to fill in the exposed areas………..

Why not wait until mid-Spetember? Your biggest issue is going to be the intensity of the sun. You need to have temps cooling off to around 80 in the day (peak), allowing you to water the patches 30 minutes twice a day. You never want the soil with the seeds to go bone dry, which is what will happen if you plant the seeds now. 3 weeks won’t make much difference to you, but it will make a while lot for the seeds.
fall is a great time to seed as it is cool out!
think so
not late at all
If your in the uk now is a good time to sow grass seed, its still warm enough and any rain will help it along nicley. I have just put some in my garden a few days ago over a large area and its already coming up. If you get a few dry days make sure you give it a water in the evening, or first thing in the morning. Now is also a good time to start thinking abouth any plants that may need transplanting.
yes you can but best wait till september and remember to keep it watered oh and choose a calm day
September would be better, so long as the nights are at least in the 50’s for several days in a row for best and quickest germination; but the real reason for starting lawns in the fall is that the weed seed in the mix won’t have time to reproduce before the end of the season. If you use this stuff early in the summer you will get a good crop of weeds you’ll have to deal with year after year.
Well, I have just done so, to repair damage caused by a combination of arid weather and toddlers playing. I’ve also laid down some turf as well. Grass grows quite quickly so by the time the youngsters return from the school holidays (2nd week of September) the treated grass areas should be repaired. You shouldn’t have any problems while the weather is still warm and the ground is still friable.
Ideal time, just keep it damp.
Wow….depending where you live, its just about perfect time for seeding cool season grasses Lik e bluegrass, ryegrass and fescues.
perfect time..

Yes – just be sure to keep it watered.
No, It’s not to late to put down some grass seeds. It is actually better not to do it in the really hot days of summer. If it’s still really hot in your area you may even think of putting a layer of hay over the area to help retain the moisture once you have layed the seeds.
yes, if you live in UK as soil is nice and warm, make sure the grass seed does not dry out and protect from birds
If you’re talking about warm season grasses, then yes you can still sow grass seed as long as the temperature stays above 65 degress. Although, the early in the season, the better for grass.
Yes, you can sow grass seed now, but try to keep it a bit shady in the midday sun and don’t forget the watering can !
Absolutely
Fine to sow now as long as you keep sown areas damp, might be better to wait a few weeks when hot sunny days will not dry out the areas as quickly. check that you are buying the right type of sed for the areas you are sowing in, ie shady, heavy useage etc.
