Here’s what I do in the winter for my cats:
Go buy some of those flat tin cookie sheet trays from the grocery store. Poke a few holes in them with a small ice pick or knitting needle (or whatever is handy). Fill with dirt, sprinkle grass seed all over. Sprinkle a dusting of dirt over the top. Put on top of cookie sheet (for inside the house) or put outside in the sun, then water. Be careful not to disturb the seeds. Water daily, sometimes twice daily.
When they get about 2 inches tall, take scissors and cut the tops off about an inch. Keep doing this until you get a nice thick bed of grass.
Now you can cut the grass and dirt to the shape you need. Place it in your bald spot and stomp it down. Don’t forget to water. Good luck and have fun.
